Community Guidelines

InTheRoom is built to help people make genuine local connections with others who are in the same physical spaces or nearby areas. These guidelines help keep InTheRoom respectful, authentic, and safe for everyone.

1. Respect Others

Treat other users with respect. Harassment, bullying, threats, intimidation, hate speech, discriminatory behaviour, or targeted abuse is not permitted on InTheRoom.

2. Be Authentic

Users should represent themselves honestly. Do not impersonate another person, create fraudulent accounts, misrepresent your identity, or use another person's photographs or information without permission.

Where InTheRoom provides account verification, verification features are intended to help establish authenticity and trust. Verification does not guarantee a user's character, intentions, or behaviour.

3. No Spam or Abuse of the Platform

Do not use InTheRoom to spam, mass-message users, repeatedly send unwanted communications, distribute unsolicited promotions, or interfere with the normal operation of the platform.

4. Messaging and Communication

Use messaging features responsibly. Do not send abusive, threatening, sexually explicit, fraudulent, malicious, or otherwise inappropriate content to other users.

Respect another user's decision not to communicate with you. Attempts to bypass blocks, restrictions, or other safety controls are not permitted.

5. No Fraud or Deception

Do not use InTheRoom to conduct scams, financial fraud, phishing, identity theft, deceptive schemes, or other unlawful activity.

Do not falsely claim to represent InTheRoom, another user, a business, venue, organisation, or other third party.

6. Appropriate Content

Content shared through profiles, rooms, messages, images, or other platform features must be lawful and appropriate for the InTheRoom community.

Content involving exploitation, threats of violence, illegal activity, or other serious abuse may be removed and may be reported to relevant authorities where required or permitted by law.

7. Respect Real-World Boundaries

InTheRoom is location-based and may connect you with people who are physically nearby. Never assume that another user wants to meet, interact, or be approached simply because they appear in the same room or location.

Respect personal boundaries and leave others alone when they indicate that they do not want contact.

8. Safety When Meeting Others

Use good judgment when interacting with people you meet through InTheRoom. Consider meeting in public places, tell someone you trust where you are going, and avoid sharing sensitive personal information unnecessarily.

InTheRoom does not conduct background checks on every user and cannot guarantee the identity, intentions, or behaviour of another user.

9. Location and Privacy

Location functionality is used to support InTheRoom's location-based features. Do not attempt to obtain, track, expose, or misuse another user's private location or personal information.

10. Reporting and Blocking

If another user behaves inappropriately, threatens you, harasses you, or makes you feel unsafe, use the available blocking and reporting features where applicable and contact our support team when necessary.

Please do not make false or malicious reports against other users. Reports may be reviewed to help protect the community and maintain platform integrity.

11. Enforcement

InTheRoom may investigate reported violations and take appropriate action where necessary. Depending on the circumstances, this may include removing content, restricting features, limiting access, suspending an account, or permanently removing an account from the platform.

Serious or unlawful conduct may also be referred to appropriate authorities where required or permitted by law.

12. Changes to These Guidelines

These guidelines may be updated from time to time as InTheRoom develops and new safety considerations arise. Continued use of the platform after updated guidelines are published constitutes acceptance of the revised guidelines.
